Ronda is one of the "must visit" places in Andalucía. I've never heard of the place before we went there, but it is on all tourist itineraries. A mid-size town in Malaga province, Ronda is surrounded by sheer cliffs and a gorge (good boundaries for a medieval town), and the views down the cliff and into the gorge are extraordinary. Ronda has a medieval old town, a slightly less medieval new town on the other side of the gorge, and modern suburbs. It also has a luxury hotel overlooking the gorge. And a bullfighting arena - it is one of the hotspots of bullfighting.

Things to do near Ronda are

  • Cycling along the Via Verde de la Sierra, an abandoned railway track converted into a 36km bike track

  • Visiting the nearby Cueva de la Pileta with its prehistoric cave paintings

Ronda is also considered to be a hotbed of tapas
