Kangaroo Island is a large island near Adelaide in South Australia. It is a largely rural island with a lot of Australian wild life. Dingos, rabbits, foxes and other imported species never made it across the straits, so the local fauna is pretty much Australian (except for people and bees). You would expect a lot of large marsupials on an island with this name, but recent bushfires have decimated the kangaroo population and it was still recovering. They used to be ubiquitous before the fires. Because of the proximity to Adelaide, Kangaroo Island is a popular weekend spot for Australians. There are a few towns on the island but large parts of it are national parks
