There are two seal colonies on Kangaroo Island, one of them at Cape de Couedic at the Southwestern corner of the island. New Zealand fur seals live in this colony. Fur seals are eared seals, as opposed to true seals which do not have ears. Eared seals have two hind flippers, which they can use for clumsy locomotion on land, whereas true seals have a single flipper and only use the fore flippers to move on land.
