Le Bourget
June 2007 16 |
Le Bourget is one of Paris' northern suburbs, but more important, it is the location of Paris' oldest airport. This is the place where the first intercontinental flight in world history ended: Charles Lindbergh landed here. It is now used only for business aircraft, but it also houses the French aerospace museum, one of the best equipped in the world. And every two years, the Paris Air Show takes place on the old airport.
The airshow itself is a fascinating event. Not ony the latest and hottest aircraft are on display (you can't go inside, though, unless you're seriously interested in buying one), but there are also air shows every day where manufacturers show off the capabilities of their equipment, and it has an incredible VIP density. Starting with all the CEOs, CIOs and COOs of aerospace companies and potential buyers, air force generals and defense ministers.
Our booth was next to the casino where the French air force entertained guests, and on the first day, all Nato air force chiefs posed outside for a group picture. In addition, security was less than perfect, and I'm really happy that terrorists didn't seem to much interested.
